Occupy Seattle

If you have been following Occupy Wall Street, there is a local version.  Occupy Seattle has been occupying Westlake Park.  This has been an interesting exercise in democracy.  It looks like the city has had enough.

It has been a busy day.  I will post again later this evening.

  1. What's the latest on Occupy Seattle? I assume there are people settling in - Seattle seems like the kind of city that would have a strong movement base. Have you guys spent any time down there?

I am slow warming up on this one for a lot of reasons, but it does seem to be coming into focus with a critical anti-corporate influence message. One of my hesitations is about people misunderstanding that the left is not about ending capitalism, at least not for me - I am convinced what we want is a balance between individual achievement and the public good, and I'm worried about painting my own feelings about wealth in terms too black and white. But I am SO glad people are out there stirring this up, finally.

Don't know if that makes sense.

Hey, thanks for the shout out on Risky Biscuits - I must not be subscribed to that one. Is this type of conversation better suited for there? Let me know.
