Cafe Flora for Brunch

While I am quite certain that Cafe Flora in Madison Valley is great for other meals, I have only been there for brunch.  Since I have been there twice, I thought I should say something nice about it.  The food was great and the atmosphere is amazing.

Traffic Politeness

While Seattle has a reputation of having horrible drivers, we also have many polite drivers.  Often at intersections, I find that people are TOO polite.  Traffic would move more smoothly if people just obeyed the rules.  Guess this is true in Portland too, based upon Portlandia.  Actually, much in that show hits home sometimes about Seattle.

Of course we also have people that seem to ignore the rules and go whenever they want (like the Yugo).  Some of them are bicyclists and pedestrians.  I guess that they just depend on drivers' politeness to keep them safe.  Seems stupid to me, because it only takes one driver who is not polite or not paying attention, and you are in the hospital.

In Praise of the Edgewater

Staying in nice hotels can be fun.  Most of my life, I have chosen the more offbeat (a euphemism for cheaper, but not scary).  This was often to save money, but it is also about experiencing more.  Most luxury hotels are about providing a reassuringly comfortable, but bland environment.  They reassure you that you are important and successful, and do not challenge you.  Slick, but not too different.  Grand hotels always have little touches that hint at local culture, but allow you to remain in a comfortable bubble.  Still, every once in a while, it is nice to treat yourself to some relaxing luxury, so it is nice when you find a place that still gives you a sense of the place you are visiting.  The most amazing places give you a completely unique experience while catering to your comfort, and the Edgewater Hotel on Alaskan Way is one of these places.
